How to document, organise and protect your memories, photographs & keepsakes

My name’s Katie and I am the founder and incredibly passionate creator of Memory Box Tribe.
Memory Box Tribe is a happy, online space to inspire you with fun and creative projects to help you document, display and preserve all your wonderful family memories to enjoy in your homes and to keep safe for generations to come.
For the last 35 years I have been super passionate about taking photographs and protecting our memories

34 years ago I started taking photographs of my family (yes I was 6!) and I was so excited to document our little holidays and adventures together…and to be given the responsibility of holding the film camera.
I was always the person wherever we went who was so desperate and excited to capture our little moments and time together, that I was and have always been to this day…the photographer.

It didn’t stop there either! My passion of documenting our lives and stories just grew and grew. When I was 13 I stopped one day and realised how irreplaceable all our physical memories all were. At that time, all we’d ever had was film photography so even though the magic of printing out what we took was wonderful, we had no back ups of any of them if it all got lost!
I felt so panicked at that thought and took a conscious responsibility to find a shoe box and slowly work my way through our huge library of photo albums at home, carefully picking out select photographs of family members and special events. Just enough so that my mum and dad wouldn’t miss them, but I knew that we had enough to keep safe.

It sounds awful to say, but what went through my mind was…what if there was a fire? We could lose everything and we could’t even run to get them or take them with us! Hence, the shoe box idea.
My shoe box could live under my bed and heaven forbid anything did happen, that could be there first thing that I grab to take with me.
That thought has always done two things
- Bring me peace knowing I am protecting our family stories and memories
- Fill me with panic and dread now as I have beyond imaginable collections of our life stories in every form…too much to pick up in an emergency and protect!

This is why I started the Memory Box Tribe, because now I am at absolute OVERWHELM.
My goal is have it all organised and accessible for the whole family to enjoy, and at the same time find ways to stay on top of everything else I keep in future…and also a kind way to pass these stories down the generations, without them keeping my hoard!
My passion and purpose is to find the best ways possible to protect our physical and digital memories. This is what fuels me every day to bring this to you.

I am not here to be perfect or pretend that I have it all together but I am so excited to bring you along on my journey because…
I have…
- over 50k photographs just on my personal collection alone, not even counting the thousands of videos I’ve taken too,
- Photos & videos backed up and scattered across the multiple platforms, hard drives and CD rom discs and in print form too (yes I’m a dinosaur I know!).
- Along with boxes and boxes of my children’s artwork,
- keepsakes and memory boxes of all kinds.
- …and wallets full of cards and letters from loved ones
The list goes on and on…and I know I am not alone in this.
It is…an obsession
…and one with an exciting purpose and I am genuinely so excited to share what I learn with you along the way and inspire you to create your own fun ways to bring your memories to life.

I know not everyone of you will have my insane hoarding obsession, and it’s also not necessary either.
One thing I do know for sure that most of us, at least tend to have a phone with a camera, or a way of taking digital photographs that rarely, if ever get backed up in more than one place to keep them safe or even a box of photographs all jumbled up, making it hard to look through. If that’s the only one thing I can help you with, then that is amazing!
I will be absolutely over the moon if I can continue to help you over and over again to help you finally get on top of and feel so proud of all your wonderful memories by teaching you easy systems to manage and keep on top of for generations next to enjoy.

I am here to help you to create order and peace of mind by organising, protecting and enjoying the memories you love the most, by bringing you on the journey with me.
